Municipal Court
The Municipal Court of Orangeburg, located at 1320 Middleton Street in Orangeburg, South Carolina, operates as a court of limited jurisdiction. Our dedicated team is here to serve you during our regular hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Traffic Tickets: You can conveniently pay your traffic tickets at our location during regular business hours.
Bond Hearings: For all city arrests, bond hearings are held daily at 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
Responsibilities: The Municipal Court handles a range of cases, including all traffic tickets issued by the Department of Public Safety and misdemeanor arrests within the city.
Bench Trials: We hold Bench Trials at 9:00 AM each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with each session lasting approximately 3 hours.
Jury Trials: During the second full week of each month, we conduct our Jury Trial Term. Typically, eight to ten jury trials are resolved each month.
Criminal Domestic Violence Court: This specialized court is held on the last Wednesday of each month.
Case Load: From 2006-2007, the Municipal Court effectively managed over 8,000 cases.
Our esteemed City Judge, the Honorable Virgin Johnson, and City Associate Judge, the Honorable Chasity Sanders Avinger, preside over the court and ensure fair and just proceedings. We are here to uphold the law and serve the community of Orangeburg.
